Sheamus takes the top spot in this week’s Power 25 after winning the 2012 Royal Rumble Match. The Celtic Warrior hasn’t decided which World Champion he will challenge, but his trip to WrestleMania XXVIII is secure.
SHEAMUS
This Week: 1- Last Week: 6
Sheamus takes the top spot in this week’s Power 25 after winning the 2012 Royal Rumble Match. The Celtic Warrior hasn’t decided which World Champion he will challenge, but his trip to WrestleMania XXVIII is secure.
Smackdown GM Teddy Long was in the ring. He said the Royal Rumble was “off the chain,” and Long said Smackdown would be participating in the Elimination Chamber PPV. Shocking! Long listed off the participants the same way it was done on Raw. They are: Daniel Bryan, Wade Barrett, The Big Show, Cody Rhodes, Mark Henry, and Randy Orton. No surprises there. Long explained the rules, which sounded at first like he was explaining the Royal Rumble match rules. After Long wished everyone good luck, Mark Henry came out.
Mathews asked fans to voice their opinions on the Smackdown Chamber field by using #Smackdown on Twitter. Henry said he wasn’t liking this one bit, saying his mathematical chance is 6-to-1 that he’ll win the title, less than that depending on what number he draws. Long told Henry he should be happy he’s even in the match. Henry was offended and said he’s the most dominant man on Smackdown and Long’s meal ticket. Henry told Long to take him out of the Chamber match and to book him in a title match with Bryan tonight. Long wasn’t in a hurry to give Henry what he wanted, but Henry said he deserved it. Long stuck his finger in Henry’s chest and raised his voice, saying he’ll take Henry out of the Chamber but won’t give him a title shot tonight. Henry tried to keep his anger in check, saying Long was replaceable, like John Laurinaitis on Raw. Henry flipped Long’s tie and Long said he’s the GM and Henry just put his hands on him. Long then indefinitely suspended Henry. A light “Goodbye” song chant as Henry grabbed Long’s tie and said if he’s going to get suspended, he might as well get his money’s worth. Before he could do any damage, Sheamus came out to his music and quickly walked to the ring.
Long tried to talk Henry into leaving and while Henry’s attention was on Long, Sheamus surprised him with a Brogue Kick. Henry rolled to ringside and sold the move by staying down. “Sheamus” chant from the fans. Henry began to hobble to the back as Long said security will be waiting to escort Henry out of the building. Long announced Sheamus as the 2012 Royal Rumble winner. Sheamus stared at the Wrestlemania sign as Long asked him what title he’ll go after at ‘Mania. Sheamus said he’s heard that question several times over the past few days, but he’s going to wait until after the Chamber PPV to decide. Sheamus said he doesn’t want to make any speeches, but rather do what he does best. Before he could, Cody Rhodes’ music hit and he continued the parade of superstars.
Rhodes walked to the ring and said no one will remember Sheamus winning the Rumble match; the only thing the people will remember is that he eliminated the most wrestlers in the Rumble (six), two Hall-of-Famers, and lasted over 40 minutes in the match. Rhodes said he’d win the Chamber match and become the first dual champion since Ultimate Warrior. He said Long and Sheamus were parallels to the Warrior, since oftentimes, he can’t understand what the two of them are saying. Sheamus put his arm around Long while Long put Rhodes in a match with Sheamus tonight. He asked for a referee, so the match is next.
SHEAMUS vs. CODY RHODES
This match was joined in progress, with Rhodes working the crowd from in the ring. Back-and-forth action early on, but Sheamus clubbed Rhodes over the chest while Cody was in the ropes. Rhodes fell to ringside just over a minute in. Cody sent Sheamus into the ringpost, then hit Beautiful Disaster by springboarding off the barricade. Nice change-of-pace for that move. Back in the ring, Rhodes connected on a top-rope moonsault for a near-fall. Rhodes worked Sheamus’ arm, then came off the second rope with a bulldog on Sheamus for two. Sheamus began to come back, hitting his signature Irish Hammers. Powerslam for a two-count. To the top went Sheamus. Rhodes went to meet him but Sheamus shoved him off. Flying shoulder tackle took Rhodes down. Each man countered the others’ signatures and finishers until Sheamus hit Finlay’s Celtic Cross, apparently a new move added to his repertoire, for the win.
NORTH HAVEN — A big guy had a big message for the kids at ACES Mill Road School this week: Don’t bully, and if you see anybody being bullied, tell someone.
That was the word from Sheamus, a 6-foot-6-inch WWE superstar and a guy the kids go crazy over.
Sheamus was in town to promote the WWE initiative known as “be a STAR,” with STAR standing for “show tolerance and respect.” The multi-platform, global anti-bullying initiative was launched in April 2011 with The Creative Coalition. Sheamus visited the ACES Mill Road on Thursday during its “No Name-Calling” week.
Sheamus has been a WWE superstar since June 2009. Sheamus said he was a small, overweight red-headed kid who experienced bullying. He said he was an easy target and felt alienated. “Kids are taking their own lives because of bullying and it shouldn’t be happening,” he said before the appearance.
He said he likes to talk to kids any time he can in an effort to put an end to bullying, and has been doing it for about six months.
Sheamus’ journey to the WWE began many years ago.
Born in Dublin, Ireland, Sheamus grew up in the inner-city and often found himself defending his smaller friends from bullies.
The applause and cheering was deafening when Sheamus walked into the gymnasium, and his rapport with the kids was instant.
Sheamus told the story that he wasn’t always as tall and didn’t always weight 275 pounds, and that he was picked on when he was younger.
“I didn’t tell anybody. I was afraid to be a tattle tale. I should have told somebody. It’s very important to talk to someone. There’s nothing wrong with you,” he said.
Bullies, he said, are always looking for an audience.
“You guys are a family and you have to stick up for one another. Don’t hold it inside,” he said. “Don’t be afraid to let them know you’re not being a snitch, and show tolerance and respect.”
Sheamus told the kids that he always wanted to be a wrestler with the WWE and that “I didn’t let people tell me I couldn’t do this. You can achieve anything you want.”
Kids including Eric Diaz, Julia Burbano and Demetris Reid asked questions.
Demetris told Sheamus he wanted to be a wrestler and he asked how wrestling has changed his life and his outlook of bullying.
Said Sheamus, “It gave me a way of proving people wrong. The WWE has been great to me.”
“He’s a real inspiration to me,” Demetris said later.
At the end of the speaking program, Principal Erika Forte presented Sheamus with a Mill Road T-shirt.
Mr. John Laurinaitis to the ring, shaking hands with fans on his way there. King and Cole talk about Royal Rumble being historic and hopefully it will be for Laurinaitis tonight. Cole wants Laurinaitis to stay, King, not so much. Laurinaitis continued shaking hands around the ring as King and Cole talked on about Sheamus winning the Royal Rumble Match. Laurinaitis on mic and says he’s looking forward to his performance review, unlike them. Has be made mistakes, yes, but what man hasn’t. It’s okay to make mistakes, as long as you don’t make them twice. After tonight he’ll be the permanent GM. Besides the review is by a great man, Trip, and they’re good friends. Then there’s his performance last night at the Royal Rumble when he was Special Guest Ref, did what he said, called it right down the middle, and did his job backstage. Now we’re on on the road to WrestleMania, with a stop at Elimination Chamber. Punk will defend his Title against five others in an Elimination Chamber Match.
The people in the match will be CM Punk, Kofi Kingston, Dolph Ziggler, Miz, R-Truth, and Jericho. We’ll all enjoy watching it, but let’s talk tonight. It’s special as Beth will defend her Divas Championship against Eve. Kofi will face Miz. Dolph will face Orton. A momentus match, first time ever, D-Bry will take on Punk. Think that’s all he has coming…
Punk’s music cuts Laurinaitis off, but Laurinaitis keeps that plastic smile on his face! On stage Punk starts stinging Laurinaitis out of the area – sorta. The fans grab right on and keep singing and Punk continues. Has King sing into the mic, then Justin does it, Punk keeps singing – badly. A sign could be seen that said, “Bring back the Anonymous RAW GM!” Punk into the ring and Laurinaitis still with the plastic smile. Again Punk starts the stinging. Right into Laurinaitis’ face and Punk says, “Goodbye clown shoes!” Laurinaitis laughs.
Laurinaitis tells Punk that Punk owes him an apology as Punk thought Laurinaitis was going to screw Punk out of his Title, but he didn’t. Laurinaitis says he’s a man of his word. Punk says he doesn’t owe Laurinaitis anything, least of all an apology. Laurinaitis is a liar, not a man of his word! Unless being a man of his word mean poorly dressed patsy? That’s a good word. Ham sandwich dork? Dork fits. He came out for one reason and one reason only, to see Laurinaitis’ dimwitted face one more time before he gets 86′d by Triple H. Continue reading »
