WWE taped this week’s Smackdown in Spokane, Washington. Thanks to Ringside Xcess for these results.
The show opens with World Heavyweight Champion Randy Orton making his way to the ring, but before he can speak, Christian interrupted. Christian congratulated Orton for their match on Sunday and said it could have gone either way. He issued a challenge for another rematch, but Mark Henry came out to interrupt, followed by Sheamus. They all go back-and-forth.
SmackDown General Manager Theodore Long comes out and says that it’s deja vu with the same guys arguing about the World Heavyweight Title. Long announces that there will be a Triple Threat #1 Contenders match later tonight between Christian, Henry and Sheamus with the winner getting a shot at Orton and the World Heavyweight Title.
Backstage, Matt Striker interviewed Sheamus about the Triple Threat #1 Contenders match later tonight. He spoke about how he achieved in a few months what took Christian and Henry their whole lives to accomplish, becoming World Champion, and said he was gonna do it again starting tonight.
Sheamus b. Christian and Mark Henry in a Triple Threat match to become #1 Contender to the World Heavyweight Championship. During the match, Orton came out and joined the announce team. Henry got out of the ring and shoved Orton, which resulted in an RKO. Christian got a near fall on Sheamus and after arguing with the referee, he got nailed with a Brough Kick. After the match, Sheamus celebrated as Orton looked on to close the show.
