A video montage opens up tonight’s show, giving a replay of the recent events leading up to the Heavyweight Championship match on Sunday at Capital Punishment between champion Randy Orton and former champion Christian, with the soundtrack of Christian’s words to the WWE audience last week playing. After the montage ends, Champion Randy Orton makes his way to the ring.
Orton states that he does indeed have a concussion, but he doesn’t give a damn and is ready to fight tonight. He says that since Christian gets what he wants on Sunday with a title match, he should get what he wants – to beat the hell out of Christian tonight. General Manager Theodore Long comes out to the ring. Long says he hasn’t received medical clearance for Orton to fight so he won’t be fighting tonight, even if clearance is just a formality. Christian’s music hits and he stays up on the ramp to speak. He says he doesn’t understand why Orton is mad at him anymore because he gave him the perfect excuse not to fight him – a concussion. He says he’s going to do this Teddy Long, Smackdown style, and polls the audience about whether he will win at Capital Punishment to get the title – the audience answers with a resounding no. He goes on to say that although the audience is in Orton’s favor, he’s still going to win on Sunday, but not to worry because he’ll give him a rematch 5 days after he wins the title. Sheamus then interrupts the discussion to put his two cents in as well. He says everyone has forgotten the big picture – Sheamus beat Randy Orton last week. He asks who should have the chance at the title – someone who’s already had a ton of matches, or someone who beat the World Heavyweight Champion? Christian says that his match is already set and “Strawberry Shortcake” will have to wait. Long sets a match for the main event tonight – Sheamus vs. Christian, if Christian wins then the match at Capital Punishment will remain the same but if Sheamus wins, then it will become a triple threat match for the title. He goes on to tell Orton that he can have a ringside seat for the main event but he can’t touch or there will be serious consequences for the champion.
Matt Striker interviews Sheamus about his chance to get in to the championship match at Capital Punishment. Sheamus says he’s excited and glad that Teddy Long has finally realized that he’s the real star of Smackdown. He claims he will beat Christian tonight and then win the title this Sunday.
Christian v. Sheamus
Before the two men face off, World Heavyweight Champion Randy Orton does make his way out to ringside. He shares a stare down with Christian, holding the title up to him. Sheamus takes control early, shoving Christian into the corner before attempting a pin fall. Sheamus delivers a kick and another quick pin fall attempt. Then the Celtic Warrior puts Christian into the ropes, with Captain Charisma ducking over to the floor below to come face to face with Orton. Christian backs up from the champions and gets a kick to the back from Sheamus for his trouble. Continue reading »

After Raw went off the air, WWE set up the advertised post-Raw Street Fight between John Cena and The Miz.
Cena was laying in the ring as Raw went off the air and Miz came out. He said he’s sorry Cena is having a bad night, but it’s not over: Miz gets his title match right now. Plus, it’s a street fight.
Dark Match: WWE champion John Cena beat The Miz in a Street Fight to retain the WWE Title. At the start, Miz grabbed a chair, jumped into ring, and swung and missed. Cena made a brief comeback. Heels then hit the ring – Sheamus, R-Truth, and C.M. Punk – to make it a four-on-one beating on Cena.
Steve Austin finally ran in. He actually delivered a suplex to Miz. Then, a Stunner to the other heels. Cena recovered and hit Miz with the Attitude Adjustment for the pin. Overall, it lasted about ten minutes and, while a screwy match, it was fun.
Santino kicks at Sheamus’ face. Sheamus backs off, then drops Santino. Santino stomped in a corner then choked in the ropes. Forearms to Santino’s chest. Sheamus out on the apron kicks Santino back into the ring. Sheamus pins, but only gets two. Neck hold on Santino. Santino up and tries to get free, but a forearm to the his back drops him. Santino into a corner face first, but he’s pissed and comes back with blows. Drop toe hold, then he goes for a hip toss and can’t hit it. A short clothesline to Santino and he gets Santino up for the Celtic cross, but he gets free and hits his favorite hip toss. Santino sets up for the cobra. Santino ducks Sheamus, then comes back with the cobra. Santino pins, but gets a knee to the head. Brogue kick, then Sheamus locks on a new submission similar to the cloverleaf. Santino quickly taps out.
WINNER: Sheamus
Video of the end of the match. Sheamus poses on the apron.
Backstage, Sheamus enters General Manager Teddy Long’s office and tells him to give him a match against Christian tonight. Long tells him no and Sheamus says he isn’t asking, he’s telling. Long gives him a no disqualification match, but not against Christian, it’s against Orton.
SHEAMUS vs. RANDY ORTON – NO-DISQUALIFICATION MATCH
The two circle and lock up. Sheamus gets Orton in the corner and pounds on him with his feet. Then he beats Orton down more before Orton retaliates and jumps on Sheamus, delivering blows to the Celtic Warrior’s head. Orton tosses Sheamus outside of the ring, following him out and delivering an elbow to the face before slamming him into the ring barriers on both sides of the ramp. He tosses Sheamus back into the ring, reverses his attempt at fighting back, but when Orton tries to come down on him with a knee, Sheamus moves and Orton’s knee hits the ground hard. Sheamus puts the Viper in between the ropes and pounces on him. Orton ducks out and sends Sheamus back outside again, shoving him against the ring barriers once more and dragging him to the steel steps. Orton stands up on the step to catch Sheamus’ head between his heel and the steps but Sheamus moves and all Orton hits is the steel. Then Sheamus shoves Orton’s head into the step.
Sheamus has an arm stretch on Orton, pulling on his chin at the same time. Orton gets to his feet slowly and punches his way out of Sheamus’ grasp. Sheamus retaliates with a high elbow and tries for a pin. Then he’s right back to the arm stretch. Sheamus drops Orton down and gloats to the crowd while Orton gets up, jumping over the ropes and launching into Orton. Sheamus shoves Orton’s face into the ring post, but Orton battles back out with his fists. Sheamus delivers a clothesline and tries for a pin fall once more. Then another arm stretch, followed by a choke, which Orton gets out of with a back suplex. Orton slithers to the corner and fights for control of the match, Sheamus matching him blow for blow. They both come off of the ropes and Orton catch him with a body slam using his own momentum. Orton looks for an ddt through the ropes but Sheamus counters by tossing him out on to the floor. Back and forth until Orton bounces off of the steel steps and Sheamus takes them apart to drop the top half of the steel on to him. Then Sheamus picks him up and tosses him in the ring, followed by tossing the steps into the ring. He stalks towards Orton, but the Viper strikes with a back breaker and attempts a pin. Then he drags the steel steps over towards Sheamus, who pulls Orton down to the ground and stomps on him in the corner. Then the Celtic Warrior picks him up and takes him towards the steel steps, but Orton counters and puts Sheamus into the steps instead. Orton covers him but Sheamus kicks out. Orton moves to put Sheamus’ head into the steel but he counters, delivering an irish curse back breaker, trying to pin the champion but once again unsuccessful. Sheamus goes under the ring for a kendo stick, which he immediately uses against Orton multiple times before he falls to the ground. Another unsuccessful pin attempt. Sheamus sets up for the Brogue Kick but goes over the top rope and Orton ties his foot up in that rope. Orton grabs the kendo stick and goes to work with his retaliation. Sheamus gets his foot unhooked after Orton drops the stick and then Orton delivers a ddt through the ropes, then sets up for the RKO. Christian appears out of nowhere and sets up for the Killswitch, Orton reverses into the RKO but Christian ducks out of the ring before he can hit it. The distraction allows Sheamus to pin Orton, but he kicks out. Sheamus sets up for the High Cross, but Orton escapes, then ducks the Brogue Kick and delivers an RKO. Christian appears again, hitting him with the championship just as he did last week. Christian holds the championship in his hands and looks as it in the ring as Sheamus pins Orton.
WINNER: Sheamus, at 21:14.
Christian holds the title over Orton until the show goes off of the air.
