After fireworks shot off inside the arena, Michael Cole sent it to Josh Mathews in the ring, and he was joined by Smackdown’s Money-in-the-Bank match participants. I’m having NXT flashbacks here. Mathews went over the rules for MITB, and Sin Cara got some cheers by pointing to the briefcase as he sat on the top rope. Daniel Bryan spoke first and said winning the World Title will be worth every risk he’s going to take. Cody Rhodes grabbed the mic away and called Bryan “common” and said he’s not exceptional like Cody. Rhodes said once he becomes champion, the people will have to do what they most fear: look him in the eye. Mathews gave the mic to Wade Barrett, who said the achievements of those in the ring pale in comparison to what he has achieved. As he chronicled what he had done, Sheamus ran into the ring with a chair (he was the one MITB contestant not in the ring with the others). He chased everyone off and whacked Barrett a few times with it.

As the rest walked to the back, Sheamus decided to tell us what will REALLY happen at the show. Sheamus predicted a Randy Orton win over Christian, then he’d cash in on Orton. But he wanted him tonight, and predicted he’d hit Orton so hard, he’d knock the voices out of Orton’s head. Good line. They played Orton kicking Sheamus in the head from a month ago, with Sheamus indicating that’s his motivation. Sheamus said Orton’s biggest regret will be not kicking him in the head hard enough. Christian’s music played and he interrupted. Christian made sure the fans continued to boo him, calling them “clueless morons.” He had Sheamus repeat what he called him earlier in the promo: “a scrawny, malnourished, googley-eyed homely weasel.” Sheamus asked him what he was going to do about. Christian reminded Sheamus he beat him a few weeks ago and said he’d be champion after MITB. Christian thanked Sheamus for ripping up the contract next week and said his legal team drafted a new one that said if Orton gets DQ’ed or if there’s more ref incompetence, he gets the belt. Christian asked if Sheamus even knew how to read a contract. Sheamus got fired up and tossed the chair at Christian, who was still in the aisle. Teddy Long then walked out and reminded Sheamus that he isn’t number one contender, but if he wants to face Orton in a non-title match, he figured Orton would oblige; then Long made it official.

Teddy Long was in the ring. Long introduced the #1 Contender, Christian. A bald man, in a suit jacket that looked a little big for him, walked out with Christian. Without addressing the mystery man, Long introduced Randy Orton. The ring was all black – the black carpeting, black chairs, black table. The two wrestlers sat at opposite sides of the table. Christian said his counsel has reviewed the contract an inserted a clause that said if the referee screws Christian, he’ll get an immediate rematch. “I know I can beat you,” Christian repeated. Orton made a snide remark, upsetting Christian, who told Orton to shut his mouth. He said Orton is WWE’s Golden Boy, but they can’t save him anymore. We’re getting into CM Punk territory here. Christian said Orton can’t beat him, and at MITB, he’s going to prove it.

Orton said there was a time when he enjoyed facing Christian in the ring. He said there was a time he respected Christian and talked about their great encounters of the recent past. He said it’s “comical” how Christian keeps begging for rematches. But all of “this” was starting to make him angry, and he reminded Christian that he’s had problems managing his anger in the past. He said a lawyer isn’t going to get him a World Heavyweight Title shot. He said Christian beating him will never, ever happen. Orton then signed the contract, then slid it to Christian who handed it to the suit. He reviewed it, then whispered something to Christian as Orton became visibly agitated. Christian took his time in signing and as he readied to, the pen appeared to be out of ink. Out from the crowd ran Sheamus, who beat the crap out of Sheamus. Christian got in Sheamus’s face, so Sheamus shoved him off and gave him the Brogue Kick. Orton got up and went for the RKO, but Sheamus Brogue Kicked him instead. He grabbed the contract and ripped it up. Phew, I was afraid he was going to add his name to it. Instead, he just left the ring and headed up the ramp as Christian and Orton lay injured in the ring.
