September 17th Smackdown Results – (9/16/2011)

Digital Photos Screen Captures

Back from commercials, the participants make their entrances, Sheamus being the last. When he gets in the ring, he grabs a mic and says that before it starts, he would like to tell some stories from Ireland. He says Christian’s face reminds him of a horse’s arse and Wade Barrett he is as thick as a bag of cow manure, only half as useful. He then tells he chose Justin Gabriel because he is the 450 Splasher. We get our tag match.

Wade Barrett and Christian vs. Sheamus and Justin Gabriel

Gabriel and Barrett start for their teams. Gabriel tries a drop toe hold, but Barrett counters with a punch and tries an elbow drop which is ducked. Justin manages to land a drop toe hold and goes for an armbar, but Barrett quickly stands up and goes to the ropes, whips Gabriel, tries a hip toss but the South African lands on his feet and gives the Englishman a sobat sweep. Cover and one count. Barrett manages to get in control with a punch and a headbutt. He tries to throw Gabriel over the top rope, but he lands on the apron, defends Barrett’s incoming fist and connects with a forearm. Christian distracts Gabriel, Barrett runs towards Justin who springboard jumps over him, but runs directly into a sidewalk slam for two. Barrett drags Gabriel to the corner and tags Christian in. Captain Charisma stomps away at Gabriel. When Gabriel stands up, Christian drops him with a slap. After some punches, Christian goes for a suplex that is countered into a small package for a two count. Christian quickly stands up and clotheslines Gabriel for a two count. Christian drags Gabriel to his corner and tags in Barrett. After some punches, Barrett tries a suplex and is also countered with a small package for a two count. Rinse and repeat as Barrett stands up and clotheslines Justin. Instead of going for a cover, Barrett puts Gabriel in a submission hold. After some time Gabriel fights back, but when he goes for a kick to the head, Barrett ducks and counters with a body drop that’s good for a nearfall. Barrett tags Christian who fires a punch and chokes Gabriel on the second rope. Gabriel tries to fight back but Christian doesn’t let him, and drops him with another hard slap. He whips Gabriel hard into the corner and taunts Sheamus as we go for a break.

Back from the break Christian and Barret are still in control, with Barrett now in the ring. Barrett whips Gabriel to a corner and then delivers a backbreaker drop that’s good for two. Barrett throws some punches but the ref breaks up. He then gives Justin a boot to the face and tags Christian in. Christian whips Gabriel to the corner, runs towards him. Gabriel ducks, and when Christian comes running, counters with an STO. Barrett and Sheamus are tagged in at the same time, and Sheamus comes with double arm clotheslines. He runs towards Barrett on the corner but eats a boot. Barrett runs towards Sheamus and is nailed with a tilt-a-whirl scoop powerslam. Sheamus does a rope attack similar to what Jericho used to, and then delivers a knee to Barrett’s face. He goes for a top rope shoulderblock but Christian grabs his feet, distracting him enough to allow Barrett to stop him. Sheamus gets the better of a top rope battle and delivers his top rope shoulderblock. Christian tries to interfere but Sheamus stops him. Goes for the Celtic Cross, and Christian escapes but is clotheslined over the top rope. Barrett tries Wasteland but Sheamus escapes and hits the Brogue Kick. He tags Gabriel in, who uses his 450 Splash, covers and this one is over.

Winners: Sheamus and Justin Gabriel via pinfall

After the match, Christian tries to sneak attack but Sheamus sees it and Christian flees. Sheamus asks Christian to enter the ring, but Christian wants none of it.

WWE Slam of The Week – King and Ryder faces Otunga and McGillicutty last week. Ryder gets the win over Otunga.

Otunga and McGillicutty in the ring. McGillicutty doesn’t know where the whole personality thing, doesn’t King know who his father is? Otunga says he’s a Harvard educated lawyer. King tells McGillicutty that he knew McGillicutty’s father and McGillicutty isn’t his father. The last thing they need is another lawyer!

King & Sheamus vs. McGillicutty & Otunga

Sheamus out to tag with King and gets some pop for it.

Otunga on King with blows. McGillicutty tags in and double teams. King down, but gets up to take McGillicutty up. Sheamus tags in and on McGillicutty with shoulder blocks, blows, clotheslines and anything to destruct McGillicutty. Through the ropes blows on McGillicutty through the ropes, smiling the whole time. Sheamus up and hits his battering ram! Otunga in illegally, but a brogue kick takes Otunga out. Sheamus with his Celtic cross – King directing ringside cameras as it happens. Sheamus gets the three.

Winners – Sheamus & King

King’s busted open across the bridge of the nose, but they’re both all smiles.

September 11th Sheamus calls out the “cowards” of WWE

If you watched Sheamus and John Cena’s table-splintering clash for the WWE Championship at WWE TLC in 2009, you probably wouldn’t expect these two Superstars to ever join forces, let alone protect one another from harm. Yet, as The Cenation Commander-in-Chief was being pummeled by the sinister foursome of Christian, Jack Swagger, Wade Barrett and United States Champion Dolph Ziggler on this past Monday’s WWE Raw SuperShow, The Celtic Warrior was shockingly among Cena’s rescuers.

“They’re a bunch of cowards,” Sheamus told WWE.com in describing the four men enlisted by WWE Champion Alberto Del Rio to assault Cena two weeks before their Night of Champions encounter. “Cowards don’t deserve to be in the ring, and cowards don’t deserve to be in society. I like a good challenge and a good fight. And if I can even the odds, then why not?”

As the old adage goes, “The enemy of my enemy is my friend.” Indeed, Sheamus has garnered his fair share of adversaries since his 2009 WWE debut, including Cena’s attackers on Monday night. But has the Dubliner shelved his well documented animosity for his red-shirted rival?

“You know, fella, for a long time I believe I was a bit misguided,” Sheamus said. “When I came to WWE, I only cared about making a name for myself, and I went after Cena because there was no bigger star than him.”

With a callous demeanor that has earned him the intimidating nickname of “The Great White,” Sheamus began his career by ruthlessly brutalizing the likes of Cena, Triple H and Randy Orton, enjoying the opportunity to mangle the WWE Universe’s most celebrated figures. However, after standing up to Mark Henry this summer, Sheamus garnered newfound appreciation from those same fans that cheer Cena whenever he hits the ring. In turn, Sheamus has come to respect the Cenation leader.

“Cena’s one of the toughest opponents I’ve ever faced,” the two-time WWE Champion admitted. “He’s tough as nails and he never backs down. He’s the heart and soul of WWE, but he’s also a man that we all want to knock off the perch.”

The Celtic Warrior teamed up with Cena for the first time ever on the inaugural WWE Raw SuperShow to square off with SmackDown malcontents Christian & Henry. The former rivals stood united in victory that night, and would do so again the following week after joining with Alex Riley and John Morrison to battle Cena’s quartet of attackers in an Eight-Man Elimination Tag Team Match.

Following that triumph, the ivory-skinned aggressor was surprisingly complimentary of The Prince of Parkour despite their many clashes, including their encounter at Survivor Series 2010, their collision in the final round of the 2010 King of the Ring Tournament and their brutal No. 1 Contender’s Ladder Match at last year’s WWE TLC.

“Here’s the thing with Morrison,” Sheamus explained. “I’ve put that man through ladders, I beat the hell out of him at Survivor Series, and I’ve beaten him to a pulp all over the United States and Europe, but he always came back for more. Any man that gets beaten down and still wants to come back for a fight deserves an award in my book.”

Now that he seems to be adhering to Cena’s signature virtues of hustle, loyalty and respect, is the WWE Universe seeing the emergence of a kinder, gentler Sheamus? Will we ever spot him strolling down the streets of his native Dublin donning a Cena “Persevere” shirt to match his fiery red hair? Don’t count on it, fella. What Sheamus will do is continue putting the “cowards” in WWE on notice – particularly Christian, who orchestrated a failed retaliatory attack against The Celtic Warrior SmackDown.

“Christian cost me the World Heavyweight Championship against Randy Orton a couple of months ago on SmackDown when he failed to count to three,” Sheamus said of his June 3 clash with The Viper, which had been officiated by the bitter Canadian. “I haven’t forgotten that, and I won’t forget it.”

September 11th Sheamus remembers 9/11

September 11, 2001. The day that changed everything – our perceptions, our priorities, even the way we travel our world.

A decade later, the United States will rightly reflect on the tragedy of that day and remember the lives lost. For many, 9/11 is more than an event, it’s a seminal moment in history, a turning point that has forever altered our collective psyche.

In the chaotic and terrifying days following 9/11, WWE SmackDown was the first public assembly of its size, taking place live from Houston on Sept. 13, 2001. It proved to be a gathering not only in defiance of terrorism but also a reminder that the United States and its citizens remain resilient. The following WWE employees offered their reflections on the events of that day and the days to follow.

Sheamus, WWE Superstar: “I remember it was around two in the afternoon in Ireland. I was working for an American company at the time. We all went into a big conference room and watched the TV in shock and horror as we saw the first building on fire and watched live as the second plane struck. I can’t really describe the feeling – one of shock and fear. You’ve got to try and do whatever you can to help people get over a tragedy like that, take their minds off it. If we [Superstars] can help people take their minds off it for a couple of hours, that’s a responsibility we have.”

Back from commercial, a match is about to start, but Christian interrupts the introductions. He says that the following match has been postponed. In fact, all of the matches have been postponed because Teddy Long refuses to do the right thing. He says that he was forced to compete in last week’s Raw main event, when he was illegally double teamed by Sheamus and John Cena, but he still competed in a Steel Cage match for the World Heavyweight Championship, and despite what happened, he took Randy Orton to his very limit. Many experts, he said, told Christian was well ahead in the scorecards before the end. So the only right thing to do is to, and that the fans will all agree, that Captain Charisma deserves “One more match” for the World Heavyweight Title…

The promo is interrupted by Sheamus. He tells Christian to give it a rest, because this is getting embarassing. This reminds him of a story about some puppies his dog once had. All the puppies were born strong and healthy, but one. The last pup actually grew up to be scrawny. Also, every time he barked, hot air came out of his arse. Christian tells Sheamus to shut up, and that no one cares about his stupid Irish background, so do us all a favor and just shut your mouth. So Sheamus says he’ll make it short and sweet. First of all, he has a match right now and really wants to get it started. Second, everyone knows Christian isn’t getting a rematch. Three, Christian is out of matches, chances and excuses, but right now, he is going to get out of this ring. They stare, but Christian obeys and gets out. Wade Barrett comes out to his match.

SHEAMUS VS. WADE BARRETT

They lock-up to start and get a stalemate. They go to the corner, and the ref breaks up the hold. Sheamus taunts Barrett. They lock up again and Sheamus secures a side headlock takedown. Barrett gets up, whips Sheamus to the ropes, but eats a shoulder block for two. Barrett fights back with punches, headbutts and kicks. Sheamus answers with a kick to the shin when Barrett runs towards him in the corner, and some hammer clubs, punches and headbutts. Sheamus whips Barrett in the ropes, eats a kick, but counters with a elbow to the face, and Barrett rolls out of the ring. Wade takes his time to come back. The former Nexus leader lands a kick to the gut and some forearms to the back of Sheamus’ head. Sheamus fights back and starts firing away at Barrett and gets in total control. After some punches, kicks and stomps, he tries to whip Barrett into a corner, but Barrett reverses and sends Sheamus crashing into it. Barrett drops an elbow and kicks Sheamus’ back, picks him up, whips him to the ropes, and meets him with a flying forearm for a two count. Barrett is in control and starts hitting consecutive hammer clubs at Sheamus’ chest, and knees to his back, before putting him in a hold as we go for commercial.

Back from the break Barrett lands a Black Hole Slam for a nearfall and is still in the driver seat. Barrett places Sheamus in a hold while he is on the ropes until the ref counts 4 and he has to let him out. Sheamus tries to fight back but is met with knees to the face. Barrett taunts and hits a big boot that makes the Celtic Warrior hang to the ropes by his feet. Barrett smiles and taunts. After that he tries to get Sheamus back in the ring, but he falls to the outside. Barrett goes outside, drives Sheamus’ back into the apron edge, places him back in the ring and covers for a two count. Barrett applies a rest hold. Sheamus stands up and fights back with headbutts. Barrett counters with a haymaker and Sheamus goes to the apron. Wade tries to get him back but is hotshotted to the ropes. Sheamus goes back on his own and lands double-arm clotheslines. He runs towards Barrett on the corner but is met with a boot to the face. Barrett runs towards Sheamus but is the one countered, this time with a tilt-a-whirl scoop powerslam. Barrett goes to the ropes, only to eat Sheamus’ usual hammer fist on the chest/apron running knee routine. Sheamus connects with the top rope shoulder block. When he starts signaling for his finisher, Christian attacks him from behind ending this match.

WINNER: Sheamus via disqualification

Christian stomps and punches away at Sheamus, who fights back but is stopped when Barrett joins the assault. They pick Sheamus up, and he fights back again, this time Christian bails out and Barrett ends up eating a Brogue Kick. Christian tries to attack him from the top rope but Sheamus counters it. Sheamus goes for the Celtic Cross but Christian escapes and this time exits the ring for good.

Pictures of Sheamus touring all the way through Europe have been added to our gallery. You can also read full results below. Enjoy!

Nimes, France – September 1st
Christian beats Sheamus, Brodus Clay, Cody Rhodes, Daniel Bryan, Ezekiel Jackson, Jinder Mahal, Yoshi Tatsu, The Great Khali, Wade Barrett and Heath Slater to earn a championship match vs. Orton later in the night. Crowd was super into it. Sheamus was the most over.

Geneva, Switzerland – September 2nd
Sheamus & Randy Orton vs. Mark Henry & Christian
Randy Orton & Sheamus beat Christian & Mark Henry. RKO on Christian.
Randy Orton was by far the most over guy. We sat in row 4, two rows behind us sat a guy who booed every babyface, but when Orton came on he was screaming like a little girl for him. Sin Cara got loud chants from the kids. I would say he was second on par with Sheamus but far behind Orton. BTW, I guess it was Hunico, but he played face anyway.

Paris, France – September 3rd
Over The Top Rope Battle Royal to determine the #1 contender for the World Heavyweight Championship.

Participants: Daniel Bryan, Ezekiel Jackson, the Usos, Brodus Clay, Tyson Kidd, Jinder Mahal, The Great Khali, Heath Slater, Cody Rhodes, Wade Barrett, Yoshi Tatsu, Sheamus and Christian. Not much to say, a typical battle royal!

I tried to keep track of the eliminations as you have to have eyes everywhere in that kind of match but I think that the order (not that it really matters!) in which the guys were eliminated was: Slater, Rhodes, Jackson, Kidd, Tatsu, Clay, the Usos, Mahal, Khali. Sheamus tried to eliminate Barrett but eliminated himself in the process! The two kept fighting on their way out. Christian and Bryan were the last two Superstars in the ring and Christian eliminated Bryan.

Paris, France – September 4th
Sheamus & Randy Orton vs. Mark Henry & Christian
Sheamus & Randy Orton defeat Mark Henry & Christian (20 min, really funny Randy was in great mood jumping while touching both feet and throwing a contest: Christian did it with only one foot, Mark Henry did a “kiss my butt” and Sheamus fakes a brogue kick in Christian’s face. Cool chemistry between Randy and Sheamus.)

Wade Barrett, Dolph Ziggler, Jack Swagger, and Christian come out and start beating Cena down. Alex Riley, Sheamus, and John Morrison come out to make it a fair fight. The faces clear the ring as Teddy Long’s music hits. He says that Triple H gave him the authority to intervene when necessary, so he makes an 8-man tag team elimination match for tonight.

Match #6 – Elimination Match – John Cena, Sheamus, John Morrison & Alex Riley vs. Wade Barrett, Dolph Ziggler, Jack Swagger, & Christian

Wade Barrett and Alex Riley are in the ring. Barrett is in control until Riley whips Barrett into the corner. Riley hits an STO on Barrett for a two-count. Barrett gets up and whips Riley, hitting a black hole slam for a two-count of his own. Clubbing blows from Barrett to Riley’s chest. He slams Riley’s head into the top turnbuckle and tries a big boot, but Riley ducks it and tags in John Morrison while Barrett tags in Ziggler. Ziggler hits a number of kicks and his flip bottom. He kips up and knocks the heels off of the apron. He turns his attention back to Ziggler, who applies the sleeper on Morrison. Jack Swagger gets a blind tag and applies an ankle lock on Morrison while Ziggler refuses to let go. He eventually releases the sleeper, but Morrison has no choice but to tap to the ankle lock. Vickie Guerrero then makes her way down to the ring.

John Morrison has been eliminated.

Ziggler is stomping Riley in the heel corner. He hits a snapmare and a jumping elbow drop for a two-count. Ziggler applies a side headlock, but Riley gets to his feet. Riley hits a number of clotheslines and a big spinebuster. He knocks the heels off the apron, but Ziggler hits a famouser for a close two-count. Ziggler starts calling for Riley to get up, but Swagger gets another blind tag. Swagger and Ziggler start to argue momentarily but Swagger applies the ankle lock, lets go, hits a Vader bomb, and re-applies the ankle lock. Riley taps out as well.

Alex Riley has been eliminated.

Sheamus gets into the ring and starts going nuts. He hits punch after kick after stomp on Swagger, who gets a tag to Barrett. The two trade punches before Barrett hits a kitchen sink on Sheamus. Barrett hangs Sheamus up in the ropes and hits a huge big boot to Sheamus’ head, which gets a near-fall. Barrett locks in a side headlock, but Sheamus gets fired up and hits his double-arm clothesline. He hits a running powerslam on Barrett and hangs him in the ropes. He clubs away on Barrett’s chest and hits a running knee left to Barrett’s temple. Sheamus climbs the turnbuckle and hits a flying shoulder tackle on Barrett. Sheamus then misses a Brogue kick and Barrett hits a kick to Sheamus’ gut and attempts a pumphandle slam. Sheamus fights out and hits Barrett with the Brogue kick. Barrett is pinned.

Wade Barrett has been eliminated.

Christian is now in, and attempts a killswitch. Christian flees to the apron and slaps Sheamus. Sheamus is not pleased, and starts chasing Christian out of the ring into the crowd and up the ramp. Sheamus throws Christian into the minitron as they are both counted out.

Christian and Sheamus have been eliminated.
